New father upset after his fiancée admits she never thought she could love someone so much after having her child

Usually, a father’s biggest fear is letting go of his young daughter as she grows older. But for one father, it was equally devastating to find out that his partner loved their daughter more than ever.

The young mother wondered if her comment was inappropriate and asked anonymous users on Reddit’s popular confession forum, “Am I The A**hole,” for their opinion.

“I gave birth to our daughter a few weeks ago,” she began her statement. “When I held her in my arms for the first time and looked into her eyes, I said, ‘I didn’t know I could love someone so much,’ and I cried.”

The Reddit user was mesmerized by her daughter’s perfection and according to her mother, the overwhelming love she feels for her will never fade. When she heard this from her own mother, the Reddit user cried.

“It was a very special moment,” she admitted. “My fiancé was quiet but smiling.”

When the original post author and her future husband finally had a moment alone, he admitted he felt insulted by her statement. “He said he loved us both equally, and when I said that, it sounded like I loved our daughter more than him,” she said.

The Reddit user gave her partner a stunned “are you fucking serious?” look. The topic was over for now. However, it didn’t take long for her fiancé to bring the topic up again. Now she could only tell him her honest thoughts.

“I honestly told him that yes, I love and cherish our daughter and have never experienced such love for another human being,” the Reddit author confessed. “He said most ‘normal people’ would agree that it was a hurtful comment and would be offended by it because of the implication.”

Many users agreed that she had every right to say, believe and feel that her love for her daughter is unmatched.

One person wrote: “I have heard both mothers and fathers express similar sentiments to you. The love for a child is incomparable.”

“The closest thing to unconditional love is your child,” said another.

A third supporter commented: “Actually most ‘normal people’ would NOT agree with him (as you can see from the replies). There seems to be a lot of jealousy involved.”

After reflecting on the comments with her fiancé, the original author provided an update on the situation and explained in detail the conclusions they had reached together.

“He wasn’t jealous of our daughter’s role in my life, but of our bond with each other,” the Reddit user explained. “He didn’t have that ‘instant love connection’ that we read all new parents have (like I experienced).”

“He also agrees that not only could he have phrased it better, but he could have timed it better,” she continued, adding that he also wasn’t mad at her for posting about him in the Reddit thread.
