EXCLUSIVE: AleXa on the situation that leads to distraction through songs, winning the American Song Contest and more

AleXa is a friend to her Indian fans. Throughout her musical career, she has been associated with and even performed for the many AI Troopers (her fan name) in the Southeast Asian country, building an impressive fan base in the country.

The same could very well be due to her warm relationship with her admirers, who have been treated to her catchy lyrics and a witty concept that has enthralled many. AleXa, who moved from South Korea to her home state of Oklahoma in the US, has Russian-American and Korean parents.

AleXas Interview for new music

AleXa aka Alex Christine started out by participating in K-pop idol survival shows and has always been a tough nut to crack. The 27-year-old worked hard and continued to challenge the norms of K-pop idols to join Produce 48. After a brief exit, the show choir-trained singer has continued to work as a soloist in the industry following her debut in December 2019.

This time, AleXa returns with new singles like “Distraction” and “I’m Okay” and has once again put feelings into words to reach the hearts of her fans once again. Check out our full chat with her below.

AleXa on distraction while writing and “I’m fine”

What was it like to perform at iHeart Radio’s Jingle Ball? What did it mean to you to be the first Korean solo artist to do so?

It was a very entertaining and unforgettable experience and I can’t believe I had the honor of being the first Korean soloist to perform there. I would give anything to do the tour again.

How did the idea for “Distraction” come about and what was the writing process like?

I didn’t write most of the song, so I can’t comment on how it came about. All I can say is that it was fun to perform on tour.

Have you personally ever been in a situation that you described in the song?

Oh, 100%. I found myself in a situation recently that gave me even more motivation to record this song.

What parts of the song and the music video do you like best?

Shooting the music video wasn’t what I had imagined, but it was a lot of fun. Some very nice extras were hired on location and the shoot went smoothly and was entertaining.

I’m also curious about your previous single “I’m Okay”. What was the writing process like?

“I’m okay” was a collaboration between me and Alex Karlsson. He had already come up with the basic lyrics and topline, I rewrote parts and we shaped the song into what was released. It was a super fun process and it really felt like the first time I was releasing a song that was organic to myself.

AleXa on winning the American Song Contest and what’s next

It’s been a few years since your remarkable victory at the American Song Contest. How do you look back on that time?

It was one of the most fun periods of my career. I would love to feel that excitement, inspiration and passion again.

What was the most memorable tour stop so far?

Every city, state and country was remarkable, but nothing beats my hometown.

What’s next in your music after “Sick”, “I’m Okay” and “Distraction”?

Probably music in the same vein as these tracks. The album I should release should be a coherent project in my opinion

What are you looking forward to this year? Are there any new styles of music you’d like to try?

I’m constantly working on my own music and am always trying out different genres. Whether my songs are released or not is a matter of chance.

You recently tweeted: “Better things are coming, I can feel it.” Would you like to elaborate on that?

I recently found myself in a state of mind where I gave up hope. I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but something inside me shifted and now I’m actively trying to do things to improve my situation. I refuse to sit idly by and let opportunities pass me by.

What is your message to the Indian AI troops?

I hope to see you all in person soon, it’s been so long. Thank you for always being a constant source of love and support!
