What fans are saying after legendary rock singer’s emergency surgery cancels tour dates

After Josh Homme, the frontman of the band Queens of the Stone Age, had to be brought home from a European tour to undergo emergency surgery, his fans are praying for his recovery.

In response to the band’s posts on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram on Tuesday, hundreds of comments offered the singer and songwriter well wishes and advice for his recovery.

“Sending him lots of love and hoping he gets well soon,” wrote one fan on Facebook. “This tour has been great already, especially after the previous treatment, so I also hope he rests and gives his body space and time to recover.”

Another wrote: “I’m sad but there are more important things. Health comes first. Get well soon Josh. Fingers crossed. QOTSA is awesome.”

Homme, 51, has had health issues in the past, including a cancer diagnosis last year, he revealed in an interview with Revolver in 2023, but he remained tight-lipped about the details. The reason for the emergency surgery was not disclosed in a band statement.

“I never say it can’t get worse. I never say that, and I wouldn’t recommend it. But I say it can get better,” Homme told Revolver in 2023. “Cancer is just the icing on the cake of an interesting time, you know? I’m extremely grateful to be going through this, and I’m going to look back on it as something that sucked — but made me better. I’m OK with that. There are a lot of things I want to do. And there are a lot of people I want to do it with.”

Queens of the Stone Age have been active since the late 1990s and have recorded many hits, including “No One Knows” and “Go With the Flow.” Their 2013 album “…Like Clockwork” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The operation forced the cancellation of nine shows in July in eight European cities, including Athens, Berlin, Vienna and Zagreb.

“Every effort has been made to hold on and play for you, but continuing is no longer an option,” the band’s social media posts say.

Queens of the Stone Age’s website still lists tour dates for August and beyond, including two shows in Boston on September 27 and 28 – one of which is sold out – and a show on September 29 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
