ExpressVPN prices and plans – good value for money in 2024?

It would be foolish to leave ExpressVPN out of any guide to the best VPNs, and at Tom’s Guide, we’re certainly no fools.

In our ExpressVPN review, we found the British Virgin Islands-based service to be a fast and secure VPN, but as with most VPNs, there is a choice of subscription plans and each comes at its own price. Generally speaking, it’s worth remembering that the best VPN deals are for the longest subscriptions.

No matter which subscription you choose, ExpressVPN certainly isn’t cheap. While it’s a premium service that comes at a premium price, it still offers good value for money – especially if you know how to get the best price.

Express VPN Price

Unlike other VPN providers, ExpressVPN only has one subscription tier, but the price still varies depending on the subscription length.

The cheapest deal is a 12-month subscription, which will cost you $8.32 per month. However, if you look at most of the sites that recommend ExpressVPN – including Tom’s Guide – you actually get 3 extra months for free. This brings the monthly price down to $6.67 per month over a 15-month period.

If you prefer a shorter contract, the 6-month plan costs $9.99 per month, which is better than the monthly cost of $12.95.

Note that all subscriptions come with a 30-day money-back guarantee in case you change your mind, so you can easily sign up, try the subscription for a month, and then ask for a refund if you’re not a fan.

Express VPN price comparison

As I mentioned earlier, ExpressVPN is definitely at the higher end of the VPN market. At $6.67 per month (on an annual plan), it’s considerably more expensive than another of our favorite VPNs, Surfshark.

You can get Surfshark for almost exactly a third of the price of ExpressVPN ($2.19). Not only is it one of the best cheap VPNs, but it’s also a really lightning-fast VPN with some excellent security features. On the other hand, it’s not quite as user-friendly as ExpressVPN, and we had a few doubts about its kill switch feature.

Price-wise, between the two competitors is NordVPN, our current number 1 VPN. With a starting price of just $3.39 per month, it’s certainly a compelling choice. However, Nord offers different subscription tiers with different features, so be sure to check them out before you buy.

What makes ExpressVPN so good

The key word here is simplicity. We consider ExpressVPN to be one of the best VPNs for beginners and the easiest to use.

Its simple interface makes it stand out from the crowd on both desktop and mobile (where NordVPN struggles), while its 24/7 support and one-click connection feature make it a fantastic entry into the world of VPNs.

When it comes to privacy, it is one of the best on the market, with servers in 105 different countries and leading encryption and obfuscation.

If you’re not so security conscious, you’ll be happy to hear that ExpressVPN is also one of our top recommendations for the best streaming VPN. It can bypass blocks on major streaming services and unblock geo-restricted content with ease.
