14-year-old boy shot dead in south Houston – manhunt for shooter underway

HOUSTON – Police in south Houston are searching for the killer of a teenager early Thursday morning.

Because the investigation is ongoing, few details are known, but according to Houston Deputy Police Chief Adrian Rodriguez, the incident occurred shortly after 12:45 a.m. at an apartment complex on Broadway near Hobby Airport.

Based on the preliminary information officers have gathered, Asst. Chief Rodriguez said they believe this was a targeted operation in which the shooter fired from outside through the window into the apartment, hitting an unidentified 14-year-old boy.

He was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The only description police have of the shooter is that he is a 6-foot-tall African-American man in his early 20s wearing a dark hoodie and light-colored sweatpants. Investigators said he was seen leaving the apartment toward the north side before officers arrived.
