In a joint statement on Wednesday, NATO leaders condemned North Korea’s arms exports to Russia for use in the “war of aggression” against Ukraine. This marked the start of a major summit in Washington aimed at strengthening the alliance’s relations with South Korea, Japan and other partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol also drew attention to the threat posed by North Korea in a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event and welcomed Germany’s application to join the United Nations Command (UNC), which oversees the ceasefire in the Korean War.
