First Warner Bros. acquired DC, then Disney snapped up Marvel, and now Penguin House Publishing has officially acquired BOOM! Studios—the latest case of a major company stepping in to help a struggling mainstream comics publisher.

As announced on July 10, the acquisition will see BOOM! Studios integrated into the new owner’s pop culture-focused Random House Worlds label, which is currently war of stars Literature House Del Rey Books, physical Lore Olympus Inklore, the webtoon collection publisher, and RH Worlds, a licensing program that provides book printing support for brands such as Marvel Studios, Magic the GatheringAnd World of Warcraft.

According to a report by Deadline, the company is now a subsidiary of the larger Penguin House Publishing portfolio, BRZRKR The studio will retain its editorial and publishing independence, while distribution responsibilities will continue to be handled by both Diamond and Simon & Schuster.

The titular team accesses the Morphin’ Grid in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol. 2 #1 (2020), BOOM! Studios. Text by Ryan Parrott, art by Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Katia Ranalli and Ed Dukeshire.

Penguin House Publishing has also stated that, at least for the time being, there are no plans to move BOOM! Studio’s physical offices from their current location in Los Angeles.

Currently, the deal is not finalized, but it is expected to be finalized by the end of the summer.

Furthermore, the exact terms, such as the new ownership stakes and the actual amount that Penguin House Publishing paid for BOOM! Studios, currently remain under wraps.

Announcing the change in ownership of BOOM! Studios, Founder and Chairman Ross Richie stated, “It’s every entrepreneur’s dream to start, build and sell a company to the best. I’m excited to hand the reins of BOOM! to the best and biggest publisher in the world. Their focus on readers and retail partnerships will build on our work and help our creators become even more successful. For me personally, it’s time to take some much-needed time off with my family and explore what’s next.”

Studios on a variety of projects and has had the benefit of first-hand experience of their world-class comics publishing. Unfortunately for fans of a certain colorful hero franchise, this deal saves BOOM! Studios as a whole from extinction, but has no impact on the fate of their hugely popular Power Rangers Line, as its impending end has little to do with the publisher’s handling of the license – after all, behind the Keanu Reeves-led BRZRKRsaid books were by far their most popular and best-selling – and that is solely due to Hasbro’s ongoing mismanagement and lack of direction of the franchise as a whole.

To this end, to conclude the time of the two BOOM! Studios with the team and their first phase of complete independence, Powerful morphine power Rangers: Darkest Hour One-Shot hits shelves on July 31st.
