Ariana Grande slams haters who criticize her ‘crazy’ voice change
ArianaGrande She criticized all the haters who criticized her for her occasional voice breaking and denounced the double standards that existed when dealing with male method actors.
In a new interview Forget it! The singer addressed the comment she received last month on a video in which her voice fluctuates between high and low octaves while singing Penn Badgley on his PodCrushed Podcast. She noted that her voice change is “a normal thing that people do, especially if they have a wide vocal range,” and pointed out that she also spent long periods in her role as Glinda while filming the upcoming movie adaptation of the hit musical. “I just spent a long time every day playing a character,” she said. “(I) trained my voice for a long time to do different things before I left for London and before all this happened. The voice is in the body, it’s an instrument and muscle memory is a real thing.”
Grande also denounced the double standards that prevail: she has been criticized for allegedly staying in character even outside of filming, while other actors are often praised for doing the same.
“I mean, you see male actors, sure people make jokes here and there, but looking back they always think, ‘Oh wow, how dedicated he was to his craft! What an incredible transformation! He’s a brilliant performer!'” she said. “But then it’s like, God forbid I sneeze like Glinda or something, (then) I’m just crazy… it’s the weirdest thing.”
