Crawford – Madrimov: A closer look at PPV prices and fight card value

PPV prices are in for Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov for their match on August 3 on DAZN at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. The Crawford-Madrimov event costs $79.99 on DAZN and ESPN+ PPV in the United States.

In the UK, DAZN is priced at £24.99 for new subscribers, with the exciting subscriptions being slightly cheaper at £23.99.

First reactions from fans:

As expected, fans took to social media to grumble about the PPV pricing, with some complaining that $79.99 was too much given that Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) is facing a world champion with only 10 fights under his belt.

The fans didn’t like that and felt that fighters like Jared Anderson, Jarrell Miller and Andy Ruiz had no place at a PPV event, not even as an undercard.

I think the supporting program is excellent and far better than any other event that has taken place this year or will take place soon.

The outstanding undercard:

  • Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz vs. Jose “Rayo” Valenzeulla
  • Jared Anderson vs Martin Bakole
  • David Morrell Jr. vs. Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic
  • Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Jarrell Miller
  • Andy Cruz vs Antonio Moran

“He should be able to. I believe Crawford will knock him out. I really believe that,” Tim Bradley told Sean Zittel about his belief that Terence Crawford will knock out WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3.

Factors affecting the fight: age, inactivity and weight class

Crawford, 36, hasn’t fought in a year and now moves up to compete in the 154 class for the first time. Age, inactivity and advancement are three factors that could cause Crawford problems against the 29-year-old Madrimov.

What could be the deciding factor is Madrimov’s power. He hits harder than anyone Crawford has ever fought, and he is healthy. He has no car accidents and no long year behind him like Crawford’s last opponent, Errol Spence Jr.

“The guy he’s up against (Madrimov) is extremely strong. He’s brute strong and also very athletic. He has some attributes that can cause problems for Crawford, but you can’t be impatient when you’re up against Crawford. This guy is a little out of step,” Bradley continued his analysis of why Crawford will beat Madrimov.

The power of Madrimov will be a problem for Crawford if he can’t avoid getting hit by this guy because if he can land he’s going to punch holes in him and he probably will unless Terence plays it safe. He can’t afford to do that because he needs to look good to make sure he gets the fight against Canelo Alvarez in 2025.

“He’s impatient and he leaves himself vulnerable. I think Crawford catches him and not only does he catch him, but he hurts him, and then he wears him down. But it’s going to take some time for him to do that. I don’t think it’s going to be early. I think Crawford has to wear him down, and when he does that, he’s going to catch him and hurt him.”

Madrimov is aggressive, but I wouldn’t call him “impatient.” He attacks his opponents and doesn’t box as much as some fighters. At 154, most fighters in this division throw punches because it’s difficult for a finesse fighter to win in this weight class.
