Chris Rock asked Kelly Ripa for permission before giving his daughter the name

Chris Rock asked Kelly Ripa for permission before giving his daughter the name

Kelly Ripa has revealed the surprising question comedian Chris Rock asked her.

On Wednesday, July 10, during an episode of Live with Kelly and MarkShe and her husband, Mark Consuelos, talked about some of their friends who used the same names for their children.

“Can you imagine if one of our friends said, ‘You can’t name the child Lola because I’m going to name the child Lola?'” asked Consuelos Ripa, citing her 23-year-old daughter Lola as an example.

“No, but remember, there’s a very funny story,” his wife and co-host responded. “Chris Rock called me when he was expecting his first daughter – I had just had Lola – and said, ‘Listen, Malaak and I are thinking about naming the baby Lola, and we just want to check with you to make sure that’s OK.'”

“And I said, ‘First of all, I don’t own the name Lola, I haven’t trademarked it. And secondly, we all agree that Lola Rock is a great name.’ Like, ‘Do you mind if I change Lola’s last name to Rock?'”

“That was very polite of him,” Consuelos interjected.

Ripa then explained that because of the frequency of the name Lola, she never thought about having to give the comedian himself permission to use it. “Yeah, but that never occurred to me. I wouldn’t even… I’m not the only Kelly, you’re not the only Mark,” she said.

The couple also has two sons together: Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21.

Recently, the two talked on their show about arranged marriages and the extent to which they think parents should be involved in their children’s love lives.

“Listen to this,” Ripa told her husband on an episode of her talk show in June. “The Indian dating agency The show brought the issue to the forefront and showed people what arranged marriages are all about. The average divorce rate nationwide is about 50 percent. The divorce rate for arranged marriages is four percent. So the parents know what they are talking about.”

This information caused Consuelos to ask aloud, “Would we do this for our children?”

“I think we would choose the kids that our kids are with, we would choose those kids. If I could have personally chosen them… but I don’t want to say that,” Ripa replied.

The two came to the conclusion that the best decision they could make regarding their children and their dating was to “say nothing.”
