Mobile Airport Authority acquires RV Taylor Plaza and Boykin Tower with purchase of 272 acres

The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) Board of Directors has announced the acquisition of the property at Michigan Avenue and Interstate 10, previously owned by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Mobile Housing Board (MHB).

The MAA will own 272 acres, including what are known as Thomas James Place and RV Taylor Plaza.

This acquisition represents a significant milestone for both MAA and the City of Mobile. MAA will now commission a master plan to determine the best use of this property. This property will serve MAA’s mission well and help fund its operations well into the future.

The Mobile International Airport (BFM) terminal project is progressing and completion is scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026. The steel framework of the terminal building is already clearly visible.

“On behalf of the Board, we are pleased to have completed this transaction,” said Elliot Maisel, Chairman of the Mobile Airport Authority. “We are very grateful to MHB Executive Director Michael Pierce, Chairman Carlos Gant, Mayor Stimpson and the City Council for their support. We also want to thank HUD for selling us this property.”

“The purchase of this property is another step toward achieving our goals as outlined in the airport’s master plan,” said Chris Curry, president of the Mobile Airport Authority. “As the airport is an economic engine for the region, the proceeds from this purchase will help enhance our campus and support our efforts to provide world-class air service to our region’s customers.”
