Sadie Sink shocked by a scene in Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” video

Sadie Sink was thrilled to star in the 10-minute version of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” music video – but she was surprised that a key scene made it into the final cut.

In an interview with HecticThe Stranger Things The star said she didn’t expect the kitchen argument scene to stay in the 2021 video because it was heavily improvised and shot quickly. “When she told me she kept that scene, I was like, ‘What are you talking about?'” Sink recalled. “It was completely spontaneous; I don’t remember anything I said; we just did one take.”

The actress noted that she assumed the fight scene would simply be used as silent footage accompanied by the song. “I remember them putting microphones on us and I was like, ‘Why are they making us wear a microphone?’ I thought they were just going to record the movements of our mouths and we were going to visualize a fight in the kitchen (with music over it). I just did what came to me in the moment. It was a crazy, fun acting game and it happened to be in the final cut.”

Sink said she appreciated the realism that the improvisation technique brought. “The cool and realistic thing about it is that an argument doesn’t have to be completely thought out… You might say the same thing over and over again, but it’s real and natural,” she said. “You don’t see a lot of natural dialogue in movies, so giving us the space to improvise and interact the way we would if we were actually arguing with our partner really helped the song and the story.”

In the video, Sink plays a young woman in a tumultuous relationship with an older man, played by Dylan O’Brien. The dynamic between the two characters mirrors the lyrics of Swift’s song, which was originally released in its shorter five-minute version on her 2012 album. Red and it is rumored to be about her brief romance with Jake Gyllenhaal. At the end of the video, Swift herself plays an older version of Sink’s character, who apparently chronicles the couple’s relationship in a book called ” Everything too good.

The actress also explained that she was surprised she landed on Swift’s radar in the first place. “It was incredibly confusing at first because I never thought I would be someone who would even make it to her desk,” Sink said. “But I grew up listening to her music and was such a fan. She was such a big part of my life. If a song of hers reminded me of a character, I would use it to step into a role. She had always been a little voice in my head, so it was super surreal.”

Sink had loved the original version of “All Too Well,” which made it easier for her to tune into the music video. “Looking back, I think (Swift) has some kind of spider-sense where she can just recognize someone who would understand the task because I knew the song so well and the story behind it,” she said. “It was amazing that she somehow recognized that in me, that I would understand the song, the message, the story that she wanted to tell.”

“How she could recognize that without even meeting me before and just offer it to me right away… well, she has good intuition,” Sink continued.
