Head Start awards grant to Western Indiana Community Action Agency

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWWV)— The Office of Head Start has awarded an Early Head Start grant to the Western Indiana Community Action Agency (WICAA).

WICAA has provided Head Start services in Vigo County for 59 years and also offers regular and Early Head Start programs in Clay and Putnam counties. With this new funding, WICAA will be able to expand its program to include children ages two and younger. WICAA will now be able to offer specialized classrooms for infants, toddlers and two-year-olds that promote physical, cognitive, social and emotional development and provide support to parents.

Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides family-centered services to low-income families with young children. The Early Head Start program will serve infants, toddlers, and pregnant women beginning this fall.

Families can register by calling 812-232-3917 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or through the website. WICAA also says there will be transition services in place to minimize disruption to families already registered.
