“I was constantly bullied online”

“I was constantly bullied online”

Musician Margo Price speaks openly about her cosmetic surgery.

Price, 41, shared on Substack on July 10 that she underwent sinus surgery, a septum and rhinoplasty after years of not being able to breathe properly, suffering multiple broken noses and dealing with bullying because of her appearance.

“I was constantly bullied online and every time I appeared on TV or said something political that didn’t resonate with my fan base, the trolls would come after me,” the country singer wrote in the article titled “As Clear As The Nose On My Face.” “It was deeply painful. Since my career really took off, there were many times when I just wanted to disappear from the scene.”

She said she could learn to live with the harassment because of her appearance, but the intense pressure in her sinuses had become almost desperate. Price said her blocked sinuses caused migraines, blurred vision, hearing loss and shortness of breath, affecting her career and daily life.

Price, who also wrote about her early days of drinking and drug use (which led to some of her broken noses), wrote that at one point the pressure in her head was so intense that she thought her eardrums “were going to burst.” Price later found out it was all due to blockages and bone spurs – and she joked that while she was getting all that fixed, she might as well take care of the plastic surgery.

“As a young girl, I fell victim to all the subliminal messages that this society gives us in the media. I got the message that a girl who is not beautiful has no value. It is very painful to feel like I am not good enough and that I will never be good enough because of how you look,” she wrote about wanting to have her perpetually crooked nose fixed. “But no makeup, clothes or hairstyle would ever make me good enough because my problem was right in the middle of my face.”

Price worked with two doctors during her procedures – Dr. Shawn Nasseri and Dr. Jason Champagne. She revealed that three months after the surgery, she is “breathing and singing better than ever.”

“I was so scared my voice would sound different, but it didn’t at all,” she admitted. “As far as my self-image and self-acceptance goes, that’s another story. I’m trying to learn to love the new me, but it hasn’t been an easy road. I thought ‘fixing my nose’ would solve everything, but it was much more complicated. Women are set up to fail. You’ll be shamed for being ugly, then you’ll be called fake and shamed for getting surgery. We can’t win.”

Price openly admitted that she herself had major mental health issues after her surgeries and wanted to speak openly about it because she has fans who look up to her. She said her loved ones have helped her stay strong – and that goes for her music too.

“Music has always been what has saved me and helped me process my emotions and I don’t know where I would be today without it,” she wrote.
