With Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film was a unique experience for Sadie Sink.

In a new interview with Bustle, the 22-year-old said Stranger Things The actress reflected on filming the 2021 music video, revealing that the memorable kitchen fight scene with Dylan O’Brien was shot in just one take – and both actors had no idea their dialogue would make it into the final cut.

When Swift’s team asked him to All Too Well: The Short FilmSink was taken aback. “It was totally confusing at first because I never thought I would be someone who would even make it to her desk. But I grew up listening to her music and was a huge fan,” she told the outlet.

“She was such a big part of my life,” Sink added of Swift. “If a song of hers reminded me of a character, I would use it to step into a role. She had always been a little voice in my head, so it was super surreal… It was amazing that she somehow recognized that in me, that I would understand the song, the message, the story she was trying to tell.”

Featuring Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version), an extended version of the fan-favorite song from her 2012 album, RedThe short film – directed by the musician – tells the story of a romantic relationship that ends in a difficult breakup.

After filming the video for “All Too Well,” Sink – who stars in the new thriller – A victim – was “really scared” to watch the finished version, especially because she hadn’t expected the kitchen fight with O’Brien to be included.

“When (Swift) told me she kept the scene, I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ It was completely spontaneous; I don’t remember anything I said; we just did one take,” Sink recalled.

“I remember they put microphones on us and I was like, ‘Why are they making us wear a microphone?’ I thought they were just recording the movements of our mouths and we were visualizing a fight in the kitchen (with music over it),” she continued. “I just did whatever came to me in the moment. It was a crazy, fun acting game and it happened to be in the final cut.”

Ultimately, Sink found Swift’s decision to include the scene to be “so cool and realistic” because real arguments within a relationship “shouldn’t be completely thought through.”

“You might say the same thing over and over again, but it’s real and natural. You don’t see a lot of natural dialogue in movies,” she explained. “So giving us the space to improvise and interact the way we would if we were actually arguing with our partner really helped the song and the story.”

In December 2022, Swift wrote a heartfelt piece paying tribute to Sink and her talents for Weekly entertainment and thought about the fight scene in the kitchen.

“When she got into an explosive argument with Dylan O’Brien, I spontaneously decided to film the rehearsal,” Swift said at the time. “Good thing, because Sadie spiced up this kitchen fight with improvised lines, improvised turns of phrase, and all that with captivating nuance.”

The Grammy winner added: “The rehearsal is what ended up in the film, a one-off battle that I didn’t want to cut in the editing process. Because EVERYTHING was gripping.”
