Get your feet wet in local waters this summer!
The Fox River basin is comprised of streams, rivers and creeks that support a rich aquatic wildlife. Bring your family to explore the river systems right outside your doorstep during the Creek Exploration Series hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.
The series started on June 19 with “Fascinating Life of Freshwater Mussels”.
The exploration continues in the series with “Crazy 4 Crayfish,” which offers a closer look at the different crayfish species native to Illinois.
During this catch and release program at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles, participants have the opportunity to observe crayfish in their natural habitat.
The next session will be on Thursday, July 18, from 1-2 p.m. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet. Apply sunscreen and/or insect repellent before the program.
The Little Saplings program for 3- to 5-year-olds continues this theme with “Crazy for Crayfish” on Thursday, August 15, at 9:30 a.m. at the Creek Bend Nature Center in the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles. Registration is required. There is a fee of $5 per child.
