Guillotte, 71, began writing when she was a high school senior in Newport News, researching and tracing her roots. Her years of research resulted in her book, “Bunny,” which chronicles her life’s journey and the joys, ups and downs she experienced as an adopted child.”

Based on the true story of Guillotte’s life, Bunny is set in the North in the 1950s and the segregated South in the 1960s. “I was adopted from the Midwest and brought to Newport News, Virginia, where my adoptive parents lived,” she said. “Bunny is the story of my experiences, emotions and the journey I took to find out who I am and where I came from.”

“Since writing the book, I have found that many adoptees have similar feelings and want to know more about their past,” she said.

With the help of newspaper clippings, old phone books, census reports, hundreds of phone calls and letters to relatives and relatives’ contacts – most of which came to nothing – she kept going.

“I kept asking myself why I keep doing this – searching over and over again? What am I trying to achieve? Ultimately, I wanted to find some peace in my life, I needed to know where I came from,” she said.

Anyone who is adopted, has given up a child for adoption, or knows someone who lives in this special reality will love this unforgettable story.
