Mick Fleetwood “would like to see a healing” between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham

Mick Fleetwood has said he wants to see “healing” between his former bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

Buckingham and Nicks, then life partners, joined Fleetwood Mac on New Year’s Eve 1974 after performing in a duo called Buckingham Nicks. Both were integral members of the band until 1987, when Buckingham left, before Nicks departed in 1990. They both reunited in 1997, before Buckingham was fired in 2018.

Fleetwood spoke about her relationship in a new interview with Mojo He said: “It’s no secret, it’s no gossip that there’s an emotional wall. Stevie can speak clearly about what she feels and what she doesn’t feel, just like Lindsey.”

He continued, “But I have to say that I would personally like to see some healing between them – and that doesn’t necessarily have to take the form of a tour.”

Buckingham and Nicks’ relationship ended in 1976, shortly before the band recorded their breakthrough album Rumours. They tried to keep the relationship professional while remaining in the band together.

However, after Buckingham’s dismissal in 2018, he said People that it was all “Stevie’s doing” and that she “basically gave the band an ultimatum that either I had to leave or she would leave.”

Nicks, for her part, denied the allegations in a statement, saying: “I did not demand that he be fired. Frankly, I fired myself. I proactively removed myself from the band and a situation that I felt was detrimental to my well-being. I was done. If the band continued without me, then so be it.”

Fleetwood and Nicks had previously discussed the future of Fleetwood Mac after the death of Christine McVie in November 2022. Nicks said Mojo last month: “Without Christine, it can’t happen. There’s no chance of getting Fleetwood Mac back together. Without her, it just wouldn’t work.”

Fleetwood said in February last year that he had “drawn a line” under the band’s future performances, but he would be happy if the members continued to make music on other projects.

To Mojo This month he spoke even more openly about it, saying: “It was a strange time for me. Losing sweet Christine was catastrophic. And then, in my world, losing the band too. And I also split up with my partner. I was just licking my wounds.”

However, Buckingham said in February that he would rejoin the band “in an instant” if anything happened.

As for Nicks, her limited edition Barbie doll has been re-released and she will headline London’s BST Hyde Park on Friday (July 12), supported by the likes of Baby Queen and Nina Nesbitt. She was also due to perform in Glasgow and Manchester earlier this month, but these were postponed due to a leg injury that required minor surgery – this news follows another cancellation in Pennsylvania last month.

However, the show in Hyde Park will go ahead as planned and tickets can be found here.
