Kevin Bacon tells Vanity Fair that he would rather be famous. Of course.

Equipped with false teeth, a slightly modified nose and glasses, Philadelphia-born actor and superstar Kevin Bacon walked like a normal person through the Grove, an outdoor shopping mall in Los Angeles.

He hated it.

“People were kind of swarming me and not being nice,” he said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, discussing his recent film roles, his evolution as an actor and being a famous son of Philadelphia. “Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to, I don’t know, buy a … coffee or something. I was like, ‘This sucks. I want to be famous again.'”

Poor Kevin. This month he stars in the third part of Ti West’s third horror film MaXXXine and Netflix Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F., and he realizes that being a normal person isn’t as easy as it seems. The 66-year-old Hollywood star wants people to give him free coffee. Cry. How did he think being a normal person would work?

The bottom line is that Bacon is famous. He was famous his entire life, as the Vanity Fair article proves. Bacon wanted to be famous, he told Vanity Fair, primarily because of his father, Edmund Bacon, who was one of Philadelphia’s most famous urban planners and responsible for the development of the Society Hill neighborhood. He was even once on the cover of Time magazine. He died in 2005 at the age of 95.

“I saw him (his father) being recognized by people when he walked down the street, and seeing that was definitely a big driving force in my life,” he said. “Honestly, I wanted to be more famous than him. And you can put me on the psychiatrist’s couch. We could talk about that for a while. But it was definitely a motivator.”

During the interview he also talked about his daughter Sosie’s appearance in Mare by Easttown. Sosie never asked her famous father for advice until she started acting, Bacon said. “She sends auditions (to him and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick). Usually my first reaction is, ‘If they don’t give you this part, they’re… idiots.'”

Spoken like a real father who also happens to be famous.
