Garfield and Pugh fall in love in the trailer for “We Live in Time”

It’s been a while since we last heard from John Crowley, who came to Hollywood after a long and successful career in English theatre and film and scored a hit with Brooklyn in 2015. This was one of those films that thirsts for awards and lots of nominations and reminds people why they never opened the shrink wrap. Far away from Africa VHS, which they bought back in 1989. Crowley’s next project, The Goldfinchwas a literary sensational adaptation of Donna Tartt’s novel, which came out only a few years too late, after everyone had digested the wonderful prose and realized that the book unusual silly to take away its most important advantage.

As Crowley considered his next step, he decided to return to Britain to We live in timea new drama starring Hollywood stars and Brits Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, and it looks like a great and heartfelt little film. A24 released a trailer for it on Wednesday, and it’ll leave you with a lump in your throat for the rest of the workday.

Here is a summary directly from A24:

“Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together by a surprising encounter that changes their lives. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to appreciate every moment of the unconventional course their love story has taken in filmmaker John Crowley’s decades-spanning, deeply moving romance.”

We live in time will have its world premiere at this year’s TIFF in September and will be in a theater near you on October 11. Get your ponchos out, folks, because we bet the film will have so many tears flowing that your local arthouse theater will have to cordon off the front rows as a splash zone. You don’t want to end up soaked, do you?
