Community members gather to demand action from homeowners in Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Community members are gathering in Youngstown today to demand that a landlord make repairs to his properties.

The Youngstown Housing Task Force, ACTION, and the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) are on E. Midlothian Boulevard for a demonstration in front of the corporation’s management agency, All State Property Management. The management company is located at the Turnberry Apartments on E. Midlothian Boulevard.

The rally is in response to reports from tenants who claim the company has raised their rent while ignoring their requests for repairs. WKBN has spoken to many of these tenants and attempted to track down the owner to get a response to their complaints, but has been unable to find any information about the company’s owner. You can read the full report here.

WKBN found that Youngstown Houses LLC has 93 properties in violation of the city’s building codes. The company purchased over 300 homes from Gary Crim, Inc. last year, valued at $5.6 million.

WKBN will be covering the demonstration live. Check back here for the latest developments.

After receiving no response from the property management company, people demonstrate along East Midlothian Boulevard, chanting, “Action, action, we want action!” and “All public property owners, equip your properties!”, “Youngstown Houses, equip your properties!” The group holds up flags and signs.

Residents of the apartments spoke to some of the protesters about their own concerns.

Protesters marched to the Turnberry Apartments, where All State Property Management is located, to meet with the property manager of Youngstown Houses LLC. They were followed by a crowd chanting “Action, action, we want action,” and apartment residents stood outside shouting “Amen!” They hoped the property manager would sign a contract to maintain their properties, but the office is locked and closed.
