Dartmouth College suspends fraternity amid investigation into student death – NBC Los Angeles

Dartmouth College has suspended a fraternity while it investigates the death of a student whose body was found in the Connecticut River on Sunday after she had been partying nearby the night before, the school said.

Won Jang, 20, of Middletown, Delaware, was reported missing late Sunday afternoon after Saturday night’s gathering, a Dartmouth official said. State and local rescue workers searched the river and found his body Sunday evening, according to Scott Brown, dean of the college.

“There is no evidence that Won’s death was the result of a crime,” Brown wrote in a message to the Dartmouth community.

The school announced Tuesday that it had suspended Beta Alpha Omega and Alpha Phi, but did not give reasons.

“We are working closely with the Hanover Police Department, who are leading the investigation,” Dartmouth said in a statement.

“The entire Dartmouth community is mourning the tragic loss of Won Jang. Our counseling team has been assisting the family since Monday, and Dartmouth is providing all possible support to Won’s parents, family and friends,” the school said.

Hanover police said Tuesday that they could not release any further details, but urged anyone with information about Jang’s death to contact them.
