Ariana Grande is being heavily criticized for her changed voice after THIS viral video!

ArianaGrande the controversy surrounding her ever-changing voice is OVER.

Last month, the thank you, continue Singer became the subject of a heated social media frenzy after she Penn Badgley‘S Podcrushed Podcast. In case you missed the viral clip, Ari went from a higher, breathier octave to a lower pitch in a candid moment while discussing her return to making music, and got off topic in the process.

Watch the moment again at 21:45 (below):

Fans were quick to accuse her of using her “customer service voice,” having “two personalities,” and trying to hold back the “normal Ariana.” Others blamed the character Glinda, who she played in this year’s Evil Film. The whole thing was hotly debated online at the time! And now she’s taking up the topic again.

At a performance on Evan Ross Katz‘S Shut up, Evan In the podcast on Tuesday, the 31-year-old pop star explained:

“I think it’s quite normal for the tone of certain conversations to change. When I’m very animated, I sound more animated. When I’m more serious, I sound more serious. I’m not always the same – nobody is!”

She reiterated her previous statement that she changes her voice to “preserve her vocal health” before confirming that she had initially gotten into the habit of speaking in the higher, breathier voice to prepare for Glinda:

“Another thing that is very real is that I have just been playing a character every day for a long time and training my voice to do different things, long before I left for London (to film) Evil). The voice is in the body. It’s an instrument and muscle memory is a real thing. If I keep losing mannerisms or changes in tone that I’ve trained myself to do every day for two years, that’s a completely normal thing.”

She compared her situation to that of male actors who approach their roles “methodically” but do not face the same criticism as her:

“With male actors, you see that people always say afterwards: ‘Oh, wow! How dedicated he is to his craft. That transformation! He is a brilliant actor!'”

*Cough* Austin Butler *Cough cough*

She continued:

“And if, God forbid, I sneeze like Glinda or make an accent like her, then I’m crazy and ‘someone should check on her.’ After I made that comment (about changing my tone of voice), I started thinking about how this is normal, and not only normal, but also: I had a job to do.”

The Yes and The singer concluded:

“It’s weird to be under a microscope like that, and sometimes people don’t really know what it’s like, so it’s the weirdest thing. We all do it. We all get used to it, and we all have different modes.”

We can understand what she means. BUT!!! This is not the first time she has been criticized for the way she speaks! In 2018, she was accused of speaking with a Blaccent… which, uh, yeah. We haven’t forgotten that! Is this supposed to be blamed on vocal health??
