Georgia opens 2025 season against Marshall; UCLA series canceled

The Georgia Bulldogs will open the 2025 season at home against the Marshall Thundering Herd, the school announced Wednesday.

Georgia will host Marshall on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. The game will be only the second meeting between the two schools in football.

In their first football meeting in 2004, the Bulldogs defeated the Thundering Herd 13-3.

The remainder of Georgia’s non-conference schedule in 2025 includes games against Austin Peay and Charlotte in Athens on Sept. 6 and Nov. 22, respectively, and a road game against Georgia Tech on Nov. 29.

Georgia was originally scheduled to open the 2025 season on August 30 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, against the UCLA Bruins. However, that game and the 2026 return game in Athens were mutually canceled.

News of the cancellation of the UGA-UCLA series was first reported by UGASports.com earlier this year. UCLA also announced today that its future series with Auburn in 2027 and 2028 has also been canceled.

The cancellation of the UCLA series and other changes to the college football schedule indicate that the SEC will likely move to a nine-game conference schedule beginning with the 2026 season.

Georgia’s 2026 amateur league schedule now includes a home game against Western Kentucky on September 12, an away game against Louisville on September 19 and a home game against Georgia Tech on November 27.
