Fantasy Baseball Picks Today: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Targets, Values for July 10

Major League Baseball has 10 games on its main DFS fantasy baseball schedule on Wednesday night, so you’ll have plenty of great options to consider for your lineup. The Dodgers and Phillies kick off at 7:05 p.m. ET in one of the most exciting matchups on the slate, but there are some interesting fantasy games from the other games as well, including three divisional matchups, three interleague contests, and the second game of a Show-Me Series doubleheader between the Cardinals and Royals.

With so many options to choose from, let’s jump right into my top players and stats on Wednesday night’s list.

JUG

breed

Nick Pivetta, Boston Red Sox Comparisons Oakland Athletics ($9,600) – All of the pitchers at the top of the salary structure this Wednesday have had ups and downs of late. There are no real “ace” options, so I’m betting on Pivetta because he has high strikeout potential and a great matchup at home. Pivetta showed his potential with a dominant, 10-strikeout performance last Thursday against the Marlins in Miami. He posted 34 DKFP, though he ended up getting a no-decision. This season, he is 4-5 with a 4.06 ERA, 4.15 FIP, and 10.2 K/9. He had a stellar outing at home against the Braves in early June, posting a total of 36 DKFP, but then got blown away in starts by the Phillies, Reds, and Padres later in the month. Pivetta is an all-or-nothing option, but he should be in a good position to succeed against the Athletics. Oakland has the second-highest K% in MLB, the third-lowest team batting average and the third-fewest runs scored. Over the past 30 days, the A’s offense has picked up, but they still have a high strikeout rate and should give Pivetta enough Ks to offset the damage they can do in Fenway.

Value

Kyle Freeland, Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds ($5,000) – While the options at the top end of the salary structure are a little shaky, the value options are mostly pretty scary. Most pitchers under $8,000 have been hit hard on a regular basis this season, with some strong starts in the field. The lone exception is Freeland, who was out for most of the season with a left elbow injury. Before being sidelined, he had an atrocious 13.21 ERA in four starts, and only one of those was at Coors Field. Since his return, however, the left-hander has seemed like a different pitcher, allowing just three earned runs in 19 games. 23 innings with a 1.37 ERA, 3.22 FIP, and 0.97 WHIP. In those three games, he faced the Nats, White Sox, and Royals, and two of those were even at Coors. He lasted at least six innings in each start and averaged 17.0 DKFP. Freeland isn’t in ideal position against the Reds at Great American Ballpark, but his success comes from using his sinker to keep the ball in the ballpark, which should translate from Denver to Cincinnati. He only costs $5,000, so he doesn’t need to dominate to deliver great value.

INFIELD

breed

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies ($6,600) – Even in a matchup of left-handers, Ohtani is worth considering paying up because he brings so much potential to the Dodgers, who are looking to rebound from Tuesday night’s 10-1 loss in Philly. Ohtani went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base to get to 10 DKFP and has double-digit DKFP in three straight and seven of his last 12 games. In just those 12 games, Ohtani had five home runs and five stolen bases while batting .295 with a wOBA of .466. His matchup with Christopher Sanchez ($9,000) isn’t ideal, but Sanchez got beat up by the Cubs in his last start. Ohtani’s potential is obvious with his power potential, and since he’s been running more lately, he brings speed potential as well.

breed

Corey Seager, Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels ($5,000) – Seager has battled several injuries this season but has been very productive when he has been available. In his 79 games, he has a batting average of .270 with 17 home runs and a wOBA of .353, but he has been much better recently, posting a batting average of .352 with three home runs, 10 runs scored, 10 RBIs and a wOBA of .440 and an ISO of .296 in his last 14 games. He has played well all season against right-handed pitchers like Griffin Canning ($6,800) and should be in a good position to stay hot as the Rangers try to land a sweep in Anaheim and win their sixth game in a row.

Value

Connor Wong, Boston Red Sox vs. Oakland Athletics ($3,900) – Wong is still very affordable given his offensive boost this season, and he is on the strong side of his splits at home against left-handers JP Sears ($6,500) on Wednesday. Overall, the 28-year-old backstop has a .309 batting average with seven home runs and a .353 wOBA, but he has really shined against left-handers with a .333 batting average and .400 wOBA in the split. In Wednesday’s matchup, he’s a great way to get top-notch performance behind the plate while still paying under $4,000.

Value

Jose Iglesias, New York Mets at Washington Nationals ($3,200) – Although he is better known for his glove, Iglesias has performed well against left-handed pitchers since joining the Mets in late May. He has a .313 batting average overall this season and an even stronger .382 against lefties. He has hit 13-of-34 with five doubles and a .411 wOBA, and posted a 174 wRC+ against lefties in his limited sample. On Wednesday, he had a great matchup against Patrick Corbin ($5,500) and represents a great opportunity to save money at either the 2B or 3B position and become part of a productive Mets lineup.

OUTFIELD

breed

Tyler O’Neill, Boston Red Sox vs. Oakland Athletics ($5,300) – O’Neill is another Red Sox hitter to consider if the Sox are well-positioned against a left-handed pitcher. O’Neill has hit 16 home runs and a .370 wOBA this year, and six of those home runs have come against lefties against whom he had a .333 batting average. In his 20 games since returning after a few days off due to knee soreness, O’Neill has hit five home runs and posted a .384 wOBA and a 49.1% hard hit rate, according to Statcast. He has moved up to third in the order and should continue to be successful on Wednesday against Sears.

breed

Corbin Carroll, Arizona Diamondbacks Comparisons Atlanta Braves ($4,900) – Carroll is still worth under $5,000 as he only has a .210 batting average this season, but the 23-year-old is showing signs of a return to form that gives him high potential with his power and speed. Carroll has six hits in his last six games, including two doubles and a home run. He has scored eight runs and stolen two bases during that time, helping him average 10.2 DKFP per game. Carroll and the Dbacks play at home against Charlie Morton ($8,800)who has struggled on the road this season. Carroll’s salary has increased since his recent upswing, so this could be the last chance to get him at this reduced salary for a while.

Value

Jackson Chourio, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates ($3,800) – Another young leadoff hitter with great potential this Wednesday is Chourio, who seems to have adjusted and found his momentum again. The 20-year-old started the season hot but then struggled, as many rookies do as the league gets used to them. Recently, however, Chourio has picked up the pace, though he’s 17-of-48 (.354) with four doubles, two home runs and two stolen bases in his last 14 games. He hit safely in 13 of those 14 games and averaged 9.5 DKFP per game. He’ll likely start first against the left-hander. Martin Perez ($5,800) on Wednesday, giving him a top position in run production.

Value

Rece Hinds, Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies ($2,500) – Another young rookie with potential is recently called up Rece Hinds from the Reds. Hinds batted just .216 with a 38.3% strikeout rate in Triple-A, but had 13 home runs and 12 stolen bases. The 23-year-old was called up on Monday and hit 2-for-3 with a home run and 19 DKFP in his debut on Monday, and he added another home run on Tuesday while hitting 3-for-5 and posting 29 DKFP. He became the first player since 1901 to have five extra-base hits in his first two MLB games. His power and speed give him high potential, and while he may not be able to sustain that success given his minor league track record, he’s on a trajectory worth riding for just $2,500.
