Chris Jericho is excited to wrestle with AEW in Calgary for the first time

Chris Jericho will wrestle with All Elite Wrestling for the first time tonight at AEW Dynamite in Calgary.

FTW Champion Chris Jericho was recently a guest at McGuire on Wrestling. When asked if he was expecting a different atmosphere tonight in Calgary since that’s where he rose in the industry, Jericho said it was the perfect time to be there and he was excited to make his All Elite Wrestling debut in Calgary.

“It absolutely is,” said Chris Jericho. “And I’ve been doing this for so long that a lot of people probably don’t even know I started in Calgary. But it’s interesting, Calgary and Edmonton are both great cities. I’ve found that Edmonton has really raised the bar in terms of the response to wrestling and the way they appreciate the shows. But I know Calgary is going to be so crazy because of the Stampede. It’s the perfect time of year to be here and it’s the perfect time of year for the Owen Hart Cup finals.

“The tournament we did with Owen’s family and Dr. Martha Hart. And it’s the perfect time to have the finals here. It really connects us to the heritage and lineage of the Hart family and how important they are to the history of not only pro wrestling but the history of Calgary. You don’t even have to be a wrestling fan to know that the Harts are from Calgary. They’re just these mythical creatures that ruled the world back in the day.

“But I’m really excited for our show and it’s my Calgary debut for AEW. I’ve fought them many times for WWE, but for AEW, this is special too. So it’s a good feeling. I’m very excited. And again, it just adds to the party atmosphere that the whole city experiences here during the Stampede. And it’s the perfect time for us to be here.”

Jericho faces a difficult task in his AEW debut in Calgary, as he faces Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight. At the time of this writing, the FTW Championship does not appear to be on the line.
