Brendan Gleeson is part of the cast of Spider Noir.

Spider-Noir is the new Spider-Man noir live-action series starring Nicolas Cage. A premiere date for Spider-Noir has not yet been set, but it is known that the series will debut domestically on MGM+ before later being shown on Amazon Prime Video.

According to Variety, Gleeson is now part of the cast of Spider-Noir. Character details are currently under wraps, but Variety notes that he is “reportedly playing the series’ villain.”

Gleeson was recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Colm Doherty in The Banshees of Inisherin (2022). He has also appeared in films such as Braveheart (1995), Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), 28 Days Later (2002), In Bruges (2008), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Paddington 2 (2017), The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) and many more. He also plays Mad-Eye Moody in the Harry Potter series.

Gleeson will next be seen in an as-yet-unnamed role in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux, opposite Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The film is currently in post-production and will be released in U.S. theaters on October 4, 2024.

What else do we know about Amazon’s Spider-Noir series?

The logline states that the series “tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York who must come to terms with his former life as the city’s only superhero.”

It is also known that New Girl’s Lamorne Morris will play Robbie Robertson in Spider-Noir, with Cage reprising the role he played in animated form in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on the series. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal also serve as executive producers, as does Harry Bardbeer, who also directs the first two episodes.
