Chris Jericho says there is no rush to retire: “When I know, I’ll know”

Chris Jericho has no immediate plans to leave the ring.

During his appearance on McGuire on Wrestling, Jericho was asked – after John Cena announced a farewell tour – if he had thought about his own retirement plans. Jericho said he had a lot of fun in AEW and believes he can still contribute at a high level. When it’s time to retire, Jericho will know. But as long as he’s having fun and feeling comfortable in and out of the ring, he sees no reason to stop wrestling.

“I’ll know when it’s time, you know? I really enjoy what I do and I’m still a high contributor,” Jericho said. “I can still have the best match on the show on any given night — not every night, but any given night. And I just love what we’re doing with AEW right now. So there’s really no rush. And when I know, I’ll know. And I think that’s the best way to put it. And right now, I’m having too much fun and enjoying it and really enjoying building AEW. We’ve come so far in just five years and we’ve got so much more to do at the highest level. So from that standpoint, we’ll see. And right now, as long as I’m having fun and enjoying myself and feeling comfortable in the ring and out of it, there’s no reason to stop.”

Cena made a surprise appearance at WWE Money in the Bank last weekend and announced that 2025 will be his last year as a wrestler. His retirement tour will run from January to December 2025. The number of dates he plans to complete is “between 30 and 40.”

Jericho told McGuire at Wrestling that he liked the way his former wrestling rival Cena was approaching his retirement.

“I mean, it’s great. John has always loved wrestling and he has a great connection with the fans. I think it’s a cool path,” Jericho said. “People know that’s what it is. And John is not the type to say anything lightly, so I’m sure he’s focused on that and worked with the company to make sure it’s right. And I’m sure it’s going to be a really great year and a half for Cena fans and for John Cena himself.”

The 53-year-old Jericho will be in action tonight at AEW Dynamite in Calgary, facing Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight.
