Club president confirms Arsenal and Liverpool signing of striker

The president of Turkish club Ankara Keçiörengücü has claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool will compete with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Baris Alper Yilmaz this summer.

Yilmaz has been the star of Turkey’s run to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 and clubs across Europe have taken note of the versatile striker’s performances. The 24-year-old played for Ankara Keçiörengücü before joining Galatasaray in 2021. The second division club included a sell-on clause in his contract.

Sedat Tahiroglu, the president of Ankara Keçiörengücü, has stated that he has been informed that in addition to the German club Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring Yilmaz.

He expressed his hope that the striker, who contributed seven goals to Galatasaray’s record Turkish Süper Lig title win last season, can make a spectacular move and become the face of Turkish football.

“We own 20% of Baris Alper Yilmaz’s share, but Galatasaray has not requested a meeting with us on the issue. I have heard that Liverpool and Arsenal want him, but I know that Nuri Sahin (Dortmund coach) definitely wants him,” Tahiroglu told Aksam.

“He can be sold for around 30 million euros. The path for young people in Turkish football must be paved. Hopefully he makes a decision that is good for him.”

“The money is not important. What is important is that Brasi Alper comes to a team where he will be successful because he will be the face of Turkey.”

Galatasaray value Yilmaz at €30 million (£25.3 million) and the striker is comfortable in many roles. Last season, the all-round star played at full-back, on both wings and as a centre-forward for the Turkish champions.
