“So I wrote my own”: Whoopi Goldberg publishes her comic about menopause, which she wrote “25 years ago”

The View host Whoopi Goldberg has now released a new book that deals with menopause. The book, which was written 25 years ago, is titled The Change.

This release comes after the actress released her memoir Bits & Pisces: My Mother, My Brother and Me. Read on to learn more about her latest comic book, which tackles one of the lesser-talked about topics.

Whoopi Goldberg on her latest comic

Goldberg spoke about The Change in detail on the July 9 episode of The View. She announced that her book, The Change, was out. The movie star talked about her love of comic books since she was a child, but none of them appealed to her. Goldberg commented, “So I wrote my own.”

The Ghost actress said she was inspired to write the book so she could feel better represented, the way she wanted to be.

The screenwriter Jaime Paglia co-wrote the book and the illustrations are by Sunkanmi Akinboye.

While discussing The Change on the show, Goldberg also mentioned that she wrote it 25 years ago when she was in the midst of a change herself. The actress shared, “It’s about a woman embracing the superpowers she gains through menopause.”

Later in the episode, Goldberg went into more detail about the main character’s appearance. The actress shared that many superheroes have great bodies and a wonderful bust, but the main character of her comic does not. She looks like a normal person.

Goldberg shared that the character has gained weight and is humorous. The movie star went on to say that she wanted to portray her as a superhero, so she wrote her to have a superheroine, but the actress “got too old.”

Whoopi Goldberg shares a scene from The Change

In the episode, the show’s co-host, Joy Behar, asked the star of “The Color Purple” to elaborate on the superpowers of the main character Isabel Frost.

The comic book author used a scene from the book itself as an example. Goldberg said: “She is in the middle of an argument with her husband and he is getting on her nerves terribly.”

She added that her husband gets “hot” while Isabel “basically cooks” him. Goldberg cited that the leading lady is unaware of her powers at this point.

The other co-host, Sunny Hostin, said that the leading lady transfers her warmth to her husband. To which Goldberg replied, “Well, she does what all good superheroes do – if you don’t stop talking, they move you.”
