The only solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war is a ceasefire and peace talks, the foreign and trade minister said on his Facebook page. He indicated that he would also represent this position at the ongoing NATO summit in Washington.

Minister Szijjártó noted that the situation in Ukraine is deteriorating: the tragic events, including the deaths of children, are heartbreaking and it is to be expected that the situation will continue to deteriorate.

There are more and more weapons, increasing war propaganda and a serious danger of escalation.

We have been warning about this for weeks. The only way to stop the senseless destruction and killing, save lives and prevent further violence is a ceasefire and peace negotiations,” he said.

Péter Szijjártó added that this was the reason why they had embarked on a peace mission and were on their way to Washington.

“This is the position we will take at the NATO summit: there is no solution on the battlefield. It is incomprehensible that after two and a half years this is still not understood. The draft resolutions for the next three days show a complete lack of understanding: NATO plans to launch a mission to support Ukraine.

We will not be involved in this: we will not supply weapons, we will not provide soldiers and we will not participate in the financing,” he stressed.

In conclusion, the Foreign Minister stressed that the danger of escalation was serious, that the war was becoming increasingly violent and that the voices calling for peace must become louder.
