The 64-year-old is best known for his roles in Hurry And Ghostsbut what’s his life like away from the cameras? Read on to learn all about his very famous family, including his brother, son, and ex-wife, who are both actors.

Robert Glenister’s famous father and brother

It is perhaps no surprise that Robert aspired to a career as an actor, considering that his father is the famous television director John Glenister, whose credits include the BBC adaptation of Emmaand the ITV crime drama A touch of frost.

Both Robert and his younger brother Philip Glenister have followed in their father’s footsteps and both have extremely successful acting careers.

Philip, 61, is known and loved for his portrayal of DCI Gene Hunt in the BBC series Life on Mars and its continuation ashes to Ashes. He recently starred in the BBC miniseries, Steeltown Murdersand ITV’s successful crime drama After the flood.

Philip previously gave the Daily Mail an insight into his and Robert’s upbringing: “My private life was very suburban – not showbiz at all. We lived on a street that was a community, and my mother and father’s closest friends were people they had grown up with at school.”

He continued: ‘In the 1970s my father was the star of costume drama, but home was nothing like Hampstead. He was often on the road for work reasons. I remember him coming home, the television on, and sitting down and working on his script with a big wooden board propped up on his chair, drinking a beer. He was very passionate about his work.”

Robert’s famous ex-wife

From 1984 to 1992, Robert was married to actress Amanda Redman, known for her roles in New tricks And The Good Karma Hospital. The former couple have a daughter together, Emily, who was born in 1987 and now works as a director and literary agent.

In 2003, Amanda revealed that her separation from Robert was “not easy at all”.a lot of water flowed down the stream“.

“I’m glad enough time has passed that I can be happy that Robert and Emily at least keep in touch,” she told the Daily Mail. “But the separation was not easy at all and I don’t like being reminded of it.”

Robert’s second wife and actor’s son

Robert is now married to radio play director and producer Celia de Wolff, who works for BBC Radio 4’s War Peace with John Hurt and the Harry Potter Audiobooks read by Stephen Fry.

The couple has a son together, Tom, who is also an actor. The 28-year-old appeared in Grantchester, Vera, and most recently played alongside his father in Mr Sherwood, plays a younger version of Robert’s character.

Robert previously told the BBC how his son got the role: “I just thought – and I know, I’m his father – that he was a great actor. I think he has something special.

“I initially contacted (creator) James Graham about Tom and said, ‘Look, this is shameless nepotism, but my boy finished drama school three years ago and is great. He’s been working and all this other stuff, can you speak to the relevant authorities and see if they’ll allow him to tape himself?'”

Robert explained that Tom was up against “a lot of people” in the audition. “It wasn’t a spontaneous decision, it took a while for everyone to come together and for the BBC to look at the role, but he got the part,” the actor explained.
