Love Island star explains why she decided to leave the villa

Love IslandUma Jammeh has spoken out about her decision to leave the show with her partner Wil Anderson after he was dumped following another relationship.

The 23-year-old model and VIP presenter has had a turbulent week after it emerged that Wil, 23, had smooched Lucy Graybill in bed during their brief stay at Casa Amor. But the couple appeared to be back on their feet, despite new bombshell Reuben Collins making a beeline for Uma, picking her out for another date on Tuesday (July 9).

Reuben’s decision to team up with Uma left Wil alone and exiled from the island.

The model was desperate and in tears and immediately declared: “I’m going to leave.”

Viewers were shocked by the announcement and although the other girls urged them to stay, Uma and Wil told each other that they were “falling in love” and decided to leave together.

“I knew what was going on in my head and heart, so I wanted to stay true to my feelings for him,” Uma said after her exit.

“We can’t wait to just do normal things outside, stay inside, get takeaways and have cute dates. Wil wants to take me to Whitley Bay to see where he’s from, but we’ve also talked about him potentially moving to London, so I’m excited for the future with him. It’s only up from here.”

Uma said she “felt an instant connection” and felt a “special spark” when she met the construction estimator, which made her realize “he was the right one for me.”

“I feel so comfortable and happy around him,” she continued. “It was a very special feeling to see him waiting for me after Casa. I know we’ve had our challenges, but it has made us stronger than ever. He is my lifesaver.”

Meanwhile, Wil seems grateful for the gesture, as he hinted that he might marry Uma in the future.

“I feel like what I did and what I said to her was enough for her to end her journey with me. That makes me feel great. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome,” he said.

“I was there for three and a half weeks and basically left with a girlfriend. The most incredible trip ever. I made friends for life and left with a potential wife!”

Her fans mourned the loss of the model, her friendship with the girls and her signature habit of giving the Islanders nicknames as they prepared to say goodbye.

The couple have had a rough week, as Wil’s antics in Casa Amor were aired during the Love Island Film Fest on Sunday (July 7). Wil appeared unapologetic, insisting he did what he “wanted”.

Wil “laid it on thick” and was accused by his fellow islanders of having “no composure” when he kidnapped Lucy onto the hideout’s terrace to tell her she was just his type.

Earlier in the week, Wil told Uma, “I would leave now if you would leave,” after which he backtracked and showed further remorse for his actions.

“So this is how Wil got Uma to leave after he got dumped,” someone speculated.

Uma received praise from viewers and also from more prominent personalities, including former Fashion Editor Edward Enninful, who wrote the comment “You’re a star, Uma” and added a star emoji to the reports.

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
