Bride explains why you shouldn’t book your honeymoon on your wedding night – “I’ve learned my lesson”

For many, the honeymoon is an opportunity to finally relax after the stress of wedding planning. But for one couple, that’s not the case.

On TikTok, user @mybigheadlife posted a video showing the reality of a honeymoon immediately after a wedding and wrote in a comment: “I learned my lesson.”

“This is your sign to NOT book your honeymoon the same night as your wedding,” the creator wrote in the video’s text overlay. “We are exhausted and can’t even be happy that we got married.”

The video, posted on June 16, has been viewed 1 million times and received more than 100,000 likes. Newsweek asked @mybigheadlife for comment via TikTok.

The video shows the author and her new husband looking disillusioned from the overnight trip. In the caption, she said she forgot to pack a swimsuit, her toothbrush and all her facial care.

The creator wrote in the comments that instead of having an all-night wedding reception, the couple decided to end the party at 8:30 p.m. so they could catch their flight to the Dominican Republic.

While many in the comments section questioned her reasoning, others said they could understand it.

“I felt even worse,” wrote one user. “I booked it for 6am the next morning. We slept for two hours.”

“I did it like this. We literally took an overnight flight the night of our wedding,” said another commenter, adding, “We arrived in Hawaii in the morning and tried to stay awake and get in the pool. It was crazy.”

One user wrote: “I thought they were doing it that way because I know movie scenes where they drive away together,” which influenced her opinion, the creator confirmed.

Given the many media reports showing brides and grooms dressed up in a getaway car, the author and her husband’s assumptions are understandable. But commentators were quick to offer future couples other options.

“We did it three months in advance and eloped while we were there – it made everything go smoothly and it was like the wedding was a fancy after-party,” one user wrote.

“We went on a day trip and are home unpacking our wedding gifts,” added another. “We’re planning on flying to Brazil in December!” The creator said this idea was “so much smarter.”

One commenter described a three-step process: First, get married. Second, go to a hotel for the night. Third, leave for the honeymoon the next day.

Despite the sprint to the airport, the author said her honeymoon has been “wonderful” so far, and now she can add a viral video to her list of wedding memories.
