The Umbrella Academy has released a new trailer for the fourth and final season, and it’s aptly set to “The End” by My Chemical Romance (MCR’s singer Gerard Way co-wrote the comics). Not only do we see the Hargreeves siblings again, ready to prevent the end of the world, but we also meet Nick Offerman’s character Dr. Gene Thibedeau. Thibedeau gives us a hint of what to expect in the season, saying, “This tentacle boy is the key to understanding all the timelines.”

Of course, fans of The Umbrella Academy know that the “tentacle boy” is Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min), who seems to be back after his death in an earlier season. The Hargreeves siblings are all separated after the events of the Battle of Hotel Oblivion last season and have also lost their powers. Their father Reginald is now the head of a seemingly evil business empire, while a shady organization called The Keepers echoes Thibedeau’s sentiment that the world is a “false lie.”

The Umbrella Academy was a long-running success for Netflix, so it’s nice to see that the series can go its own way and offer fans a satisfying ending.

In other words, the last season of The Umbrella Academy has to juggle and conclude many storylines. The cast includes Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and David Cross. Steve Blackman, who created the TV series, is executive producer and showrunner. Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, who created the comic book series Dark Horse, also serve as co-executive producers of the show.

The new trailer for The Umbrella Academy also comes immediately after the recent allegations of bullying and harassment against co-creator Steve Black.

While the Hargreeves siblings had to prevent the end of the world in the first three seasons, this time it seems as though Ben is actually responsible for the impending apocalypse. The trailer also hinted that solving his death could be the key to preventing it. The new trailer for The Umbrella Academy also comes on the heels of recent allegations of bullying and harassment against co-creator Steve Black. The allegations came from 12 anonymous sources in a Rolling Stones report, which Blackman’s spokesperson then dismissed as “completely untrue.” In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, Blackman’s spokesperson said the allegations had been investigated and that “all but one” had been determined to be unfounded.

For those who missed the first three seasons of The Umbrella AcademyThe series follows a family of adopted superhero siblings who try to solve the mystery of their father’s death while facing the impending end of the world. All three seasons have received critical acclaim and the series has attracted large audiences throughout its run, often landing in Netflix’s top ten when new episodes come out.

The fourth and final season will surely be no different, so catch up on the first three seasons if you haven’t already, and you can watch the final season when it hits Netflix on August 8.
