Howie Mandel presses the Golden Buzzer for 14-year-old singer Reid Wilson from Alabama

Howie Mandel pressed his Golden Buzzer for teen singer Reid Wilson, moving him to tears, during Tuesday’s two-hour audition episode of America’s Got Talent on NBC.

Reid, 14, from Alabama, belted out Lesley Gore’s hit “You Don’t Own Me.” As soon as he started, both the judges and the audience were blown away by his voice, and when he finished, they gave him a standing ovation.

“Well, Reid, we didn’t expect that,” said 64-year-old Simon Cowell.

“I think you are absolutely incredible,” said 50-year-old Heidi Klum.

Reid said he was inspired by Aretha Franklin and 68-year-old Howie told him he was surprised by his voice.

“I was overwhelmed because I was surprised,” Howie said. “I was surprised. First of all, you’re just a 14-year-old boy from Alabama, so I guess I was putting myself in your shoes. You were very nervous and you really seemed incredibly nervous. That was a surprise. You know what? This is when dreams come true. Do you believe in dreams?”

“Yes, I do,” said Reid.

“Well, one of them is about to come true!” said Howie.

Howie stood up and pressed his Golden Buzzer, and Reid began to cry as the golden confetti fell around him. His mother rushed to the stage to hug him. Howie told him he was a great talent, and Reid asked if he could hug him, and Howie obliged.

Full Steel Combat from Texas opened the show. Two of the members in full knight’s attire hit each other with axes, but were booed by the crowd. Simon and Howie both pressed the buzzers.

“I really have nothing to say,” said Simon.

Next to take the stage was Super Silva Jr., 32, a trapeze artist from Brazil. He said his act was very dangerous and then climbed onto the stage using a rope. He hung from a trapeze and then almost seemed to fall. He even went upside down, holding on only by his feet. The audience gave him a standing ovation.

“Silva, that was so scary, so exciting,” said Sofia Vergara, 52. “There wasn’t a second that we didn’t enjoy or fear. It was incredible.”

“I liked it,” said Heidi.

The judges gave him “yes” four times.

Alex Sampson, 20, a singer from Atikokan, Canada, performed a self-penned song called “Pretty Baby.” Simon took snaps while singing.

“Alex, that was beautiful,” Sofia said. “I think it was a great audition.”

“To me, that song could have been written in the ’50s or ’60s, which I actually thought was very clever,” Simon said. “It’s the kind of song you would hear in a Martin Scorsese film, you know, from that era. It was very authentic. It was very different.”

All the judges voted for him.

Espiritu, a 51-member Los Angeles dance troupe ranging in age from nine to 25, danced to Eve’s hit “Tambourine.” The audience stood up and danced with them.

“As you can see, the crowd was in love with you,” said Heidi.

“I love, love, love the energy,” Sofia said.

Howie was not impressed.

“I was a little bored,” said Howie.

“I thought it was brilliant,” said Simon.

They received three yes votes and continued.

Ry, 33, a sound healer from Portland, Oregon, said he hoped to remove any negativity from their auras. He played the flute and sat on a stage surrounded by candles and crystals.

“The performance is not AGT, sorry, no,” said Sofia.

Simon said the act had relaxed him and he gave him a yes.

“I love you,” said Simon, but the other judges said no three times.

Kalina Moolina entered the stage in a cow costume and said she was the dancing cow.

“You’re a dancing cow, good luck,” said Howie.

Howie, Sofia, and Simon all buzzed them off. Then Sofia reached over and pressed Simon’s buzzer.

“I wasn’t thrilled,” said Heidi.

Simon gave her a yes, but all the other judges voted no.

“What was for lunch today, Simon?” asked Howie.

Next, Missy Galore, with bright red and orange hair, took the stage. She started singing, but then all of the judges except Simon pressed the buzzer.

“I actually like that,” said Simon.

Three of the judges voted against her, but Simon said he would have given her a yes.

Ada Flippa, 23, from Finland, ran across the stage with a hobby horse on a pole and then jumped over hurdles on the stage, knocking several of them over.

“I have never seen a pretty girl like you doing such nonsense,” said Sofia.

“I think you’ve done something we’ve never seen before. But I have to say no,” Simon said.

The jury did not vote for her.

Praveen Prajapat from India took the stage and placed several cups of water on his head and then a huge jar of water on top of it. He balanced the cups on his head, walked around the stage, danced and even balanced on one leg. Later, he stood on two small cups and walked with them on his feet while balancing several cups filled with water on his head.

“This is crazy,” said Sofia.

“We’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Howie. “This is so unbelievable.”

“It was just beautiful to see,” said Heidi.

“That was definitely one of the most amazing performances I’ve seen on AGT,” Sofia said.

He received three yes votes and continued, although Simon, unimpressed, voted no.

B. Thompson, 27, a saxophonist from Indianapolis, Indiana, played Tina Turner’s song “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” The crowd cheered him when he finished.

“That was so sexy,” Sofia said. “It was a beautiful audition. I loved it.”

“I could have listened to it all day,” Howie said.

The judges gave him “yes” four times.

Tyler Burke, a dangerous archer from California, was next. He started by lighting a whip. Heidi hid behind the desk. He then threw a ring in the air and tried to shoot an arrow through it, but missed. He used his whip to shoot an arrow and then caught it in his hand.

Howie said he would give him “yes” a third time if he could throw the ring and shoot his arrow through it, but he missed it a third time after Simon gave him a second chance and got no further.

Helen from Ethiopia juggled things with her feet. She lay down and then began to spin things, including a whole table, with her feet. At one point she balanced the table with one foot and spun hula hoops with her arms.

“Brilliant,” said Simon.

“It was fun,” Sofia said. “We were all really excited.”

“We have never experienced anything like this before,” said Heidi.

Simon said he wanted to see her juggle a giant pizza next.

“I think your career is really going to take off now,” Howie said.

The judges gave her four yes votes.

The final act of the episode was Taro and his son Subasa from Japan. Taro took off his tracksuit and stripped down to a pair of swimming trunks. He had his son spray him with oil and then put a giant balloon on his head and then kind of all over his body. The balloon popped and Terry pulled out another one.

“What’s wrong?” said Sofia.

Simon rang the bell while Taro was looking for another balloon backstage after his spare balloon had burst. He rushed to the stage, blew up the last balloon and somehow managed to put it over his whole body. Then he jumped up little ladders into the balloon, leaving only his head sticking out. The crowd cheered him when he was finished.

“It was fun, it was creative, it was incredible,” Sofia said. “We had the best time watching you do whatever that was.”

“Honestly, it was really, really entertaining,” said Heidi.

Simon later asked her to take away his X.

“I didn’t think the number would work,” said Simon. “And then it was unbelievable. Yes, I think it’s actually a great number.”

The judges gave them four yes votes.
