Atlanta Braves News: AJ Smith-Shawver returns, Chris Sale strong, more

Before Tuesday night’s game in Phoenix, the Atlanta Braves announced that they had activated right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver from the injured list. To make room on the active roster, the club sent right-hander Bryce Elder to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Smith-Shawver was placed on the 15-day IL on May 24 due to a left oblique muscle strain sustained in his season debut. He has since completed a rehab assignment with the Rome Emperors, where he pitched two innings, recorded four strikeouts and allowed one run. He will likely be used out of the bullpen for now.

Elder started the game on Monday night and managed five innings with three runs.
