Women’s HoopDirt | NAIA NEWS: Taylor named interim coach for 2024-25 season at Simpson U

Anthony Taylor has been named interim coach of the Simpson University women’s basketball program for the upcoming 2024–25 season.

Coach Taylor is in his second year with the Red Hawks after serving as an assistant coach in his first year where he was responsible for recruiting, supervising and promoting player development.

He takes over the leadership of the women’s basketball program with over 20 years of coaching experience at the college and professional level. This includes stints at various colleges (Pacific Christian College, Cal Baptist, Mira Costa Community College) and a professional organization overseas in Germany.

Prior to Simpson, he most recently worked at Mira Costa Community College from 2008 to 2018, where he served as head coach from 2016 to 2017.

Athletic Director Rob Harley emphasizes Coach Taylor’s leadership qualities and the Christian faith he brings to the Simpson community.

“I am truly excited to have Coach Taylor lead our women’s basketball program. He brings a wealth of experience as a coach and recruiter. More importantly, he is guided by his faith in Christ and is committed to the overall well-being of our student-athletes.”

The women’s basketball team is currently competing in the Cal Pac Conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year and has a spot in the 2023 NAIA national championship.

Coach Taylor is excited to continue the successful culture and will begin his duties immediately.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach at Simpson University. I am very excited to work with Christian athletes who want to strengthen their faith and skills. I hope to provide my athletes with a meaningful experience while improving their skills and values ​​in life through sport.”
