COLLIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) – For the second year in a row, a hole from the Club at Nevillewood has made it into KDKA’s Elite 18.

Golfers have enjoyed the Jack Nicklaus-designed course since it opened in 1992, and the Golden Bear has hit the nail on the head with the design of the 9th hole, a par 4 that stretches 350 yards from the members’ tees.

“The tee shot is challenging,” said head golf professional Cory Livingston. “The penalty box is on the left side and the slope on the right can direct anything there if it’s hard and fast. Just like No. 18, the second shot on this hole is the key.”

The 9th hole is challenging, but also an entertaining conclusion to the first nine holes.

The 9th hole at The Club at Nevillewood offers a spectacular view as well as a challenging approach shot to complete the first nine holes.

With a long tee shot, you only need a medium to short iron for the green, which requires an approach shot over the water.

Those who play longer from the tee may even need to be cautious in hard and fast conditions, as a stream could come into play if the ball is hit too far.

“From these tees, it can be tight on the left side,” Livingston said. In the summer, when it’s hard and fast, it can definitely be tight.”

The 9th hole is one of only two holes on the course that has no bunkers, but one of three holes that has a water feature.

Approach shots that tend to drift left and away from the water require a pitch or chip shot that runs away from you.

Rich Walsh of KDKA found himself in this situation, but was able to save his par with a solid putt up the slope.
