Chris Hemsworth says he became a “parody” in Thor: Love and Thunder

Chris Hemsworth has reflected on Thor: Love and Thunder, calling his performance in it a “parody.”

Thor’s fourth solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Taika Waititi’s second as director received mixed reviews due to the many jokes and silly tone that undermined the attempt at a serious story – and Hemsworth is one of the people who thinks it was a bit much.

“I got carried away by the improvisation and the madness and became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing,” he said of the film in a recent Vanity Fair profile.

This is not the first time he has spoken out about the film following its release. He previously called it “too silly” due to the cast and “too much fun” on set.

In the profile post, Hemsworth talked about how, for a while, he was fed up with the whole Hollywood thing and acting in general.

He said: “I had been trying for so long to make things happen by force and violence, out of obsession and desperation to build this career, and I was just exhausted.

“I was worried about everything. Nothing was as comfortable as it used to be or as I had imagined it would be. I was shooting one film after another and doing press tours, I was married and had three small children, and all of this was happening simultaneously in a very short period of time.

“You’re running on reserve, so to speak, and then you show up with little energy and start picking everything apart: Why am I doing this film? Why isn’t this script better? Why didn’t the director call me or why wasn’t I considered for this role? Why didn’t Scorsese or Tarantino give me the nod? I had started taking it all too seriously and too personally.”

His older brother Luke was quoted as saying that he had to pull his sibling out of his depression from time to time.

He explained his method: “I look at him and say, ‘Hey, how good is that?!’ Just as a reminder that he should enjoy this more than anyone else. We grew up with working-class parents and we all worked from a young age, so it’s extraordinary to have this freedom and be able to go to all these beautiful places.”

All four Thor Movies can now be streamed on Disney+.
