Fighting hate, protecting our community

Fighting hate, protecting our community

As a lifelong resident of Palm Beach County, I am proud of the beauty and strength of our diverse community.

As the Chief Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for Palm Beach County, I know firsthand that public safety is something we do together – residents, law enforcement and our justice system working hand in hand to ensure that people from all walks of life have the freedom to To and freedom out of.

Unfortunately, not everyone shares our commitment to security and freedom. Hate crimes are on the rise across the country, including here. We cannot accept this. We must act in the face of anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia and all forms of discrimination that threaten the security, well-being and dignity of our citizens.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to the safety and protection of everyone in our community, especially our most vulnerable citizens. As our next district attorney – the first African American and first woman to hold this office in our district – I plan to continue working with citizens and law enforcement to stop the disturbing rise in hate crimes and protect all members of our community.

Once in office, I will work to establish a dedicated Hate Crimes Unit within the Palm Beach County District Attorney’s Office to combat anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, and all other crimes that violate our citizens’ right to live safely and freely. This unit will be tasked with investigating and prosecuting hate crimes, supporting victims, and working with law enforcement to ensure perpetrators of these crimes are held accountable for their actions.

Hate crimes not only harm individual victims, but also undermine the very fabric of our society by spreading fear and division. By establishing a Hate Crimes Unit, we are sending a clear message that hate has no place in Palm Beach County and that those who seek to spread it will be brought to justice swiftly and decisively.

Tackling hate crimes requires a multi-faceted approach that goes beyond law and order, which is why the Hate Crimes Unit will also serve as a key resource for community engagement, raising awareness and working with stakeholders across the country to promote understanding, tolerance and inclusion.

Throughout my career as a prosecutor, I have been deeply committed to serving the people of Palm Beach County and fighting for justice on behalf of victims. I have sought justice for hundreds of victims, including victims of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse, and I have seen firsthand the devastating impact these horrific crimes have on individuals and families.

However, I have also witnessed the resilience and strength of our community in the face of adversity. Palm Beach County is a place where people come together to support one another, where neighbors look out for one another, and where we stand united against hate in all its forms.

As District Attorney, I will continue to fight fiercely for justice and safety for all Palm Beach County residents. Together, we will continue to fight against hate and protect our community, ensuring the rights and freedoms of all are protected – no matter their race, religion, or who they love.
