“America’s Got Talent”: Howie Mandel fulfills the dreams of a 14-year-old singer with his second Golden Buzzer

America’s Got Talent returned on Tuesday for the sixth night of the 19th season auditions, and the judges had no time for lounging or fooling around – serious AGT only beacons of hope this week!

Nevertheless, in the first half of the two-hour episode, quite a few shrill red buzzers sounded and “no” votes were cast!

This week’s performers included a saxophonist, jugglers, singers, dance groups, a balancing act, stuntmen, medieval combat reenactments and more!

host Terry Crews led the overwhelming list of auditions – which were overseen by long-serving judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara And Simon Cowell — and halfway through the evening, everyone was more than ready for someone to pull off a truly breathtaking number after a series of disappointing auditions

Fortunately, at that moment, 14-year-old Reid Wilson entered the stage with a microphone in his hand and a song in his heart.

The young crooner, who hails from Alabama, was cheered on from the wings by his adoring mother as he beamed with a smile and wowed the judges before his set even began. When he then showed what he can really do with his cover of Lesley Gore’s iconic song “You Don’t Own Me,” there was no one in the room who wasn’t blown away.

“I think you’re absolutely incredible,” praised Klum. “I think it’s great how you took your microphone off and just showed a bit more stage presence. Well done.”

“I closed my eyes for a moment when you were singing, just to listen to your voice, and then I opened them again and there was this sweet, young child,” Cowell marveled with a smile.

“First of all, you’re just a 14-year-old boy from Alabama. So I imagine – I put myself in your shoes – that you were very nervous and you really seemed incredibly nervous,” Mandel said. “So that was a surprise.”

“But this is the stage where dreams come true,” he continued. “Do you believe in dreams? Well, one of them is about to come true.”

Mandel pressed the Golden Buzzer, showering the talented young artist with golden confetti and bringing him one step closer to fame.

ET spoke to the jurors on the AGT red carpet before the casting rounds of the 19th season, and they told why and gave each of them a second Golden Buzzer is a real game changer.

“Talent is subjective. If you put a singer next to a dancer, next to a dangerous act, next to a magician, they all need their own buzzer!” shared Crews. “I think it’s just perfect! And I’ve said this before: AGT is constantly evolving… (and) it gets better every time a new development comes out.”

Cowell – the creator AGT and also serves as an executive producer on the series – came up with the idea for the second Golden Buzzer, telling ET that he came up with the idea while thinking about “how much time and effort these people put into this number and where that can lead.”

“People fly in from all over the world, as do American artists, and you see the (amazing) things,” Cowell said of the show’s magic. “The 70 times I just said, ‘How did you come up with that idea?!’ That’s what I love about the show, you know? It always surprises you.”

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
