Tyrese Maxey pays tribute to Sixers veteran after NBA Summer League action

On Monday evening, the Philadelphia 76ers started their first phase of the 2024 NBA Summer League in Utah.

As the Sixers faced the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philly All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey was watching the action and saw some of the team’s young players pick up a win to start the mini-season off right.

En route to a 102-92 victory, the Sixers watched their soon-to-be sophomore forward Ricky Council IV put on an impressive performance in the fourth quarter.

Maxey reached out to X to acknowledge the Council’s efforts.

The council claimed that the Maxey Museum inspired its achievement.

On Sunday night, the Sixers announced their recent signing for Maxey. As Maxey prepared to sign a long-term deal with the franchise, the organization showed its appreciation for the young veteran by putting up a Maxey-themed exhibit.

In year two, Council has the opportunity to remain on the Sixers’ main roster year-round. Since he began his career as a two-way signee, Council spent a lot of time in year one with the team’s G-League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

This year, Council could fight for a spot in the rotation. His performances so far in the Summer League prove that he is on the right track.

In 28 minutes of action, Council had 29 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot. He scored 19 of his points in the fourth quarter, sinking all but one of his six three-pointers in the crucial period.

Council and the Summer Sixers are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday night in Utah, facing the Memphis Grizzlies for the second time this year.
