“Welcome to the Wrexham team: Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds join Eva Longoria in the series about Mexican football club Necaxa”

Welcome to WrexhamRob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have teamed up with Eva Longoria for a new bilingual sports documentary series about a new soccer club from FX and Disney+ Latin America.

The untitled project, currently referred to as Welcome to Necaxafollows Mexican club Necaxa, who, after spending several seasons in their original hometown of Mexico City, known as the “Land of Good People,” have been relocated to Aguascalientes, a working-class city. The Spanish/English-language series will be led by club owner Longoria, who, along with co-owners McElhenney and Reynolds, will breathe new life into “Los Rayos” as they focus on reclaiming the team’s place as one of the best in Mexico.

Production is set to begin soon, which makes sense given that Liga MX, the top professional soccer league in Mexico, starts its season in July. However, the show will not follow promotion and relegation, as Welcome to Wrexham This is the case because Liga MX has canceled both programs until at least 2026 due to financial problems with lower league teams.

Welcome to Wrexham was a new concept for actors and producers McElhenney and Reynolds that not only increased their fame but also sparked interest in the titular team and soccer around the world, particularly in the United States, where the sport is not as popular as it is in Europe and South America.

The FX series recently concluded its third season, which followed the team’s two consecutive promotions after rising from amateur leagues to the professional league. The docuseries was recently renewed by the network for a fourth season, which follows the team’s journey to League One, which is, confusingly, the third tier of English football.

Executive producers of the new series are Eva Longoria, Cris Abrego, Rachelle Mendez, Nick Frenkel, Jackie Cohn, George Dewey, Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds and Alex Fumero. Fumero will serve as showrunner on the series, which is produced by Hyphenate Media Group, More Better Productions, Maximum Effort Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.
