McDonald’s announced on Thursday what is on the menu for customers who his 5-dollar menu when the fast-food giant launches the limited-time special offer next week.
This year’s sales figures show that inflation-stricken consumers are eating out less, McDonald’s and other restaurant chains compete to bring even cheaper meals to market. McDonald’s announced the promotion after the company reported a decline in customer traffic at its restaurants.
“We’ve heard our fans’ wishes loud and clear – they expect even more from us and that’s exactly what they’ll get this summer,” said Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, in a statement.
For $5, you can buy the following when the promotion, which is expected to last about a month, launches on June 25 at McDonald’s restaurants across the country:
- Choice between a McDouble Burger or a McChicken Sandwich
- Small fries
- 4-piece Chicken McNuggets
- Small refreshing drink
McDonald’s has also announced a “Free Fries Friday” promotion, where customers get a free medium-sized French fry with every purchase of at least $1.
At McDonald’s, the average price of a Big Mac is currently $5.29, up 21% from $4.39 in 2019, according to the company. The average price of a Quarter Pounder with cheese is $5.39, up 20% from $4.49 in 2019. Fast-food chains blame rising labor and food costs for the Key factors for the price increase.
With over 13,500 restaurants, McDonald’s is the largest fast food chain in the country.
A January survey by consulting firm Revenue Management Solutions found that about 25 percent of people earning less than $50,000 are cutting back on fast food consumption because they’re worried about the cost. A recent survey by LendingTree found that 78 percent of consumers now view fast food as a luxury item that’s becoming increasingly expensive.
