Guitarist and singer-songwriter Talia Rose releases her debut album “Carry it Closely” this summer

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Talia Rose will release her debut album, Carry it close to youon August 20, 2024. This intimate yet sonically rich collection of eleven original songs marks an important milestone in Rose’s musical journey.

In advance of the album, Rose has released two singles. “Columbus, Ohio” gives listeners a taste of her sharp lyricism, virtuoso guitar playing and artful arrangements. The studio video for “Columbus, Ohio,” featuring a stripped-down arrangement, is also available.

“I was fascinated by the rhythmic and rhyming possibilities of the words ‘Columbus, Ohio,'” Rose says. “Without reading up on the city itself, I wondered what it would be like to live there – to completely uproot myself and move to a city I knew nothing about. I indulged in the fantasy that in this new city I would meet the perfect life partner – ‘someone to walk my dog with’ (I don’t have a dog and never will). To this day, I know next to nothing about the city of Columbus, Ohio, and I don’t think I’ll ever go there. It has to remain a secret!”

“Hold on Still,” the album’s second single, was released on June 21, 2024. Producer Jack Broza’s skills are on full display here; acoustic instruments weave effortlessly with synths and keyboards. The tender but carefully crafted lyrics lament an unrequited love: “Is there something I’m missing, and if I found it, would you know? / Hide the map so I don’t have to look for it. Loving you means letting it go.”

Carry it close to youThe third single, “In August,” will be released on July 16, 2024. Along with its witty lyricism, this tune leans into Rose’s jazz background, with an instrumental breakdown showcasing the talents of the rhythm section. The lyrics address the heartache of knowing a relationship isn’t quite right, but still needing someone to hold you: “Would you stay until winter is over? / The sun goes down early, so pretend you still want me.”

“The album is breathtaking… a celebration of singing, orchestration and creative freedom. A gift to the world.” – Julian Lage

About Talia Rose:

Talia Rose has been a fixture on the Boston music scene for nearly a decade. Her early love of modern fingerstyle guitar led her to seek inspiration and mentorship from guitarists such as Thomas Leeb and Jon Gomm. Her 2019 release What remains unmentioned marked the beginning of her journey of discovery as a songwriter. Talia’s lyrics combine intricate guitar accompaniment and a complex understanding of harmony with carefully crafted, deeply personal lyrics. Her songs reflect elements of the music she grew up with; from the melodic sensibility of Imogen Heap to the vulnerability of Adrianne Lenker to the wit of Prefab Sprout. Talia’s music may be best known for her viral song about the Mars Rover, but she elicits tenderness from unexpected sources. Talia Rose’s debut full-length album, Carry it close to you will be released in August 2024.
