High finishes for Mitchell-area golfers at Sanford Golf Series event in Pierre – Mitchell Republic

PIERRE, SD — A number of golfers from the Mitchell area took to the Hillsview Golf Course on Monday.

Dakota Munger of Chamberlain competed in the South Dakota Golf Association’s Sanford Series and finished third in the boys’ division, shooting a 1-under 71 on the par-72 Hillsview course. Nick Bothun of Pierre won with a 4-under 68.

Asher Dannenbring of Mitchell finished 12th with a score of 3-over 75. Everett Morrison (76) was 16th and Carter McCormick (77) was 20th. Winner Ryder Halligan shot a round of 80 and finished 33rd.

In the girls’ competition, Allison Meyerink of Mitchell finished third with a round of 3-over 75 to lead the region’s golfers. Olivia Braun of Aberdeen won the competition with a round of 1-over 73.

Mitchell’s Maddie Childs shot a round of 77 to finish fifth, Ava Eliason shot 84 to finish 12th and Mia Larson finished 16th after a round of 87.

At Monday’s SDGA Junior Tour stop at Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown, Marshall Widstrom of Mitchell shot a 4-over 76 to finish third in the boys 16-18 division. Carter Langle of Elk Point shot a 1-over 73 to win the division.

The next Sanford Series event is a 36-hole competition scheduled to begin Monday, June 15, at the Golf Club at Red Rock and Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City.
