Jennifer Lawrence stars in A24’s Why Don’t You Love Me?

Jennifer Lawrence will play the lead role in Why do not you love me?an adaptation of the graphic novel by Paul B. Rainey by A24.

The successful film studio recently acquired the rights to the project, which was originally scheduled for release in 2023. The film is announced as a science fiction comedy and is about a married couple struggling with their marriage and professional lives “until they realize that their reality is not what it seems and that there may be alternatives,” according to the film’s logline.

What is the plot of “Why Don’t You Love Me”?

Although no official casting information is available yet (via THR), Lawrence will likely play the role of Claire, one half of the unhappy couple. The film is directed by Robert Funke (On Becoming a God in Central Florida) and produced by Lawrence, Justine Ciarrocchi, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Emily Hildner.

“Why Don’t You Love Me? is a pitch-black comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression, and grief over missed opportunities,” the novel’s synopsis states. “Paul B. Rainey has created a hilariously terrifying alternate reality where confusion and pain can lead people to make bad choices, but ultimately freedom…maybe.”

For Lawrence, this is her second planned project in collaboration with A24. It was previously reported that Lawrence would team up with A24 and Apple for a crime thriller based on the reality series “Real Housewives.” Lawrence’s most recent project was the 2023 sex comedy “No Hard Feelings” and the 2021 apocalyptic satire “Don’t Look Up.”
