Julia Roberts’ famous brother reveals why he “can’t talk about her” or his daughter Emma

Julia Roberts has quite a famous family, and it is not just her niece Emma Roberts. Her two siblings, older brother and Emma’s father Eric Roberts and older sister Lisa Roberts Gillan are also actors.

The 56-year-old actress and her 68-year-old older brother are said to have been separated for years. Even though the relationship between the two has reconciled in recent years, they no longer speak about each other in order to protect their privacy.

Eric, who has credits such as Runaway Train, The Dark KnightAnd Babylonspoke in a recent interview about not being able to talk much about his sister and his 33-year-old daughter.

When asked about his Oscar-nominated sister on the podcast “Still Here Hollywood,” he simply replied: “You’ll have to ask her. I love my sister, but I can’t talk about her. She doesn’t want to talk about it.”

He also admitted that his daughter also “They told me not to talk about them, but I stumbled and did. I’m not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do.”

But then Eric praised his daughter’s work and immediately became a proud father. “I am thrilled with my daughter’s work. I can’t believe how amazing she has turned out. I am so proud of her I can hardly see straight.”

He continued: “Since her performance in Maybe I’ll do it so far she just overwhelms me with pride and says, ‘Oh my God, here we go again.’ And I’m just so happy to be her dad because she’s awesome. And I’m so proud.”

When asked if he contributed anything to her success, Eric replied: “Absolutely nothing. Except that I gave her that name.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2018, he spoke for the first time about his years of estrangement from his two sisters, which was mainly due to his years of problems with substance abuse.

His daughter Emma “told me not to talk about them, but I stumbled and did. I’m not supposed to talk about either of them. But I do.”

“I wouldn’t call it a fight,” he noted. “I was crazy about my sisters. I loved them and adored them. They were very important to me and we had times when we were very close. We all wanted to protect each other very much, but the hardest person to protect yourself from is yourself.”

The actor admitted that he was “exhausting” to be around, adding that he was “nagging, guilt-ridden and incapable of feeling joy. Everyone in my world needed a break sometimes, and that must have been Julia too.”

Eric praised his daughter Emma for going her own way in Hollywood

He also credited himself with having his first success in the late ’70s by paving the way for his little sister and daughter, along with Kelly Cunningham, to make a name for themselves in the industry.

“Without me, there would be no Julia Roberts or Emma Roberts as celebrities or actresses, and I’m very proud of that. When Julia first came to New York, I went to William Morris and asked, ‘Which of you is going to sign my sister Julia?'”

Eric blamed the birth of his sister’s twins for getting them back together

“And I’m so proud that everyone knows I was the first, because I was the first by a long shot. I was the first to be nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar, and I’m proud of that.”
