New star from “Girl” joins Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man noir series

The cast of the upcoming series starring Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir is growing. The show, officially titled Spider Noirhas found his first co-star for Cage.




According to Variety, actor Lamorne Morris stars with Cage in Spider Noir. The New Girl Star will play Robbie Robertson, a character who has already appeared in the comics. He is described as ambitious, hardworking and “will not take no for an answer. A dedicated journalist who wants to succeed despite the odds he faces as a black professional in 1930s New York. To attract attention and money, he takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch. He is willing to do whatever it takes to advance his career.”

Additionally the logline for Spider Noir states that the Amazon series “tells the story of an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York who must come to terms with his former life as the city’s only superhero.”


Robbie Robertson returns for Spider-Noir as live-action actor

Robbie Robertson of Morris is pictured in Spider-Man Comics as an editor at The Daily Bugle, the publication where Peter Parker also works as a photographer. He was featured prominently in the miniseries Spider-Man Noir: Eyes Without a Facewhich may have inspired Robbie to take the lead role in Spider Noir. A live-action version of Robbie was previously portrayed by Bill Nunn in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy. Various voice actors have played Robbie in animated films, including Rodney Saulsberry, Phil LaMarr and Ernie Hudson.

Morris is probably best known for his role in the successful sitcom New Girlwhich aired from 2011 to 2018. He is also known for his roles in other notable shows such as Woke up, FargoAnd GhostsMorris has appeared in films such as Yesterday, Jumanji: The Next LevelAnd How it ends. He will also play Garrett Morris in The SNL series 1975a film that examines how the first episode of Saturday Night Live came about, and he was cast in the second season of Netflix’s Unstable.

Spider Noir is based on Marvel Comics characters and is produced by co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, along with Into the Spider-Verse Team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. Uziel, Lightfoot, Lord, Miller and Pascal will all serve as executive producers alongside Harry Bradbeer, who will direct the first two episodes of the series. Sony Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios are producing.
